What distinguishes Ultra-Staff from all of the other products out there that claim to do the same thing?
Ultra-Staff has a number of big advantages over its competition. Here are the "Top Five":
- One database for temp and perm. Firms can leverage their marketing and recruiting efforts by combining the two sides of the business into one database. Ultra-Staff has separate but equal handling of these two very different types of placements. Your firm can experience the synergy of working as a team.
- Fully integrated back office for payroll, billing and accounting which are our own products. That’s right. No third party products to buy. No third party support contracts or third party finger pointing. One system for all business needs.
- SQL based. The entire system is back-ended by Microsoft SQL Server, the most robust database product available.
- Fully integrated Web Suite available so that you can safely exchange data with the World Wide Web. Ultra-Staff’s Web Suite makes it possible to exchange data with your website, job boards, customer web sites or any other place that you wish to share data with. And, it does all of this without ever exposing your live production data to the dangers of the internet at large.
- Ultra-Staff is a totally comprehensive solution, with components for search, web, placement, pay/bill, accounting, sales & sales management, document handling, medical placements, etc.

Which is better, Web based or Client/Server?
While there are always situations that mitigate any answer, there is almost no advantage to putting your application on the web to be run through a web browser. Client/Server applications can do more, provide greater data integrity, a richer user interface and provide considerably more desktop power to the user. Because of the browser approach, web based applications will generally be slower, have poor data validation capabilities, be limited to a single point of entry at one time, require much more substantial security and be generally less reliable, as system performance will be greatly affected by internet traffic, connections, and other issues. The one advantage that this type of system seems to enjoy is that a user can connect from anywhere, anytime, but this is true of Client/Server systems as well. Setting up a “thin client” network is a relatively simple matter, and allows the more robust Client/Server applications to be run by anyone, anywhere (so long as there is an internet connection or a phone line available to connect through). In the final analysis, Client/Server is the hands down winner in terms of security, functionality, flexibility, ease of use and peace of mind.

Why is the system’s platform important?
The system platform, that combination of operating system, programming language and database is important because it speaks to the longevity you can expect from your system investment. If the software is developed on old or out of date technology, it’s likely that you will be replacing it in the near future. Ultra-Staff is developed on a Microsoft platform, which we should expect to be around indefinitely. This is just one less thing for our clients to worry about. The technology behind Ultra-Staff will not become obsolete anytime soon.

When is support available?
ABD offers emergency support 24 hours per day, seven days per week and 363 days per year. We’ll always be there for you when you need us.

What does scalable mean, and why is it important to be scalable?
When we talk about scale, we’re talking about the size of implementation we’re most suited for. A system is said to be scalable if it can fit more than one implementation size. Ultra-Staff is the industry’s most scalable product. It is currently being used by a wide range of placement companies, from highly entrepreneurial boutique firms to large publicly traded corporations. Scalability has always been one of the most important underlying design principles of Ultra-Staff. We know that the size of the firm does not dictate the software needs, but it does dictate some of the platform choices. Ultra-Staff was designed to work at either extreme without loss of performance or functionality, so that companies can build a system according to their needs and not be forced to buy software because of implementation size issues.

Does it really matter how many software products we use to make a comprehensive solution?
Of course. The more vendors involved the greater the opportunity for miscommunications or other integration issues. Optimally, one vendor handles all aspects of the system. It’s certainly easier to create solutions using third party packages for key components, but this is rarely better. A company that specializes in staffing and makes both front and back office software will have a superior offering to one who relies on some other company’s software to do the same job.

Does Ultra-Staff require that we have a systems administrator on staff?
Usually not. In some larger environments it pays to have a network or database administrator. Ultra-Staff’s administration doesn’t need to be a full time job and ABD support will work directly with the users to resolve most situations.

What is GAAP, and why is it important to us?
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) are the rules that govern accounting practices in the USA. For a company to withstand an audit, it must prove that all of its accounting transactions comply with GAAP. In addition, GAAP rules ensure that fraud cannot be perpetrated through the accounting system as it imposes a series of checks and balances. Naturally, ABD strives to make products that are in compliance with GAAP.
